Dr Ahmad Magad
Group Managing Director
II-VI Infrared Asia

Dr Ahmad Magad is Group Managing Director of II-VI Infrared (IR) Optics Manufacturing Operations in Asia, with facilities in Singapore, Suzhou in China, Vietnam and the Philippines. The company is specialised in the manufacture of infrared materials, IR optical components and systems for applications in the industrial, military and medical fields.

He was elected as a Member of the Singapore Parliament (MP) and served in the Pasir Ris-Punggol Group Representation Constituency (GRC) between 1997 and 2011. In the 15 years of being an MP, he was Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for Finance and Trade & Industry, the  GPC  for  Manpower  and  also  Deputy
Chairman of the GPC for Education. As MP and serving in various parliamentary committees, he had the opportunity to influence government policies that led to the betterment of his constituency as well the well-being of his fellow Singaporeans.

Additionally, he also served in a number of Government Statutory Boards, including as Deputy Chairman of the Institute of Technical Education, as Board member of the Singapore Productivity and Standards Board (SPRING Singapore), the Public Utilities Board, the Energy Market Authority and the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA). He is a strong voice of the Quality and Productivity movement, where he made significant contributions as a Council Member of the National Productivity and Continuing Education Council and as President of both the Singapore Productivity Association and Singapore Productivity Centre.

As an alumni of the Asian Institute of Management, he was awarded the prestigious Alumni Achievement Award (Triple ‘A’ Award) in 2002 for distinguished achievement in management education and recognition of his contributions to society. He was also accorded the Achiever of the Year award by the Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2004.

In 1971, he obtained a Government Scholarship for a course of study in Germany leading to the Inginieur Grad (Graduate Engineer) in Precision Engineering (Feinwerktechnik). He also holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from Brunel University (UK), an MBA and an Advanced Post Graduate Diploma in Management Consultancy from the Henley Business School (UK).

Ahmad Magad is also a Fellow Member of CPA (Australia) and the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), the Singapore Institute of Directors and also a Distinguished Fellow of the Management Development Institute of Singapore.
